Sony Ericsson today unveiled a new accessory for Android phones, the Sony Ericsson LiveView. The LiveView is a 1.3-inch display surrounded by a touch sensitive bezel. Using an Android app, buyers will be able to control some apps on the phone and receive notifications directly on the LiveView screen. Users will be able to read text messages and Facebook emails, and will also be able to use the device with other apps, including Sony Ericsson's SportyPal Pro app. Developers will be able to write apps that interact with LiveView, and Sony Ericsson will provide a LiveWare Manager application that will gather LiveView compatible apps from the app market for easier download. The company demonstrated the LiveView being used with its own built-in clip, and with a watch band accessory. Specific pricing and availability has not been announced, but the device should be available in Q4 of this year. So we knew it was coming, but now it is official.
